I have a small electric Craftsman that is about 30 years old. I have cut down some fair size trees (up to about 10" in diameter) with it. It had done just fine.

The only problem is it doesn't have an automatic oiler. If you buy one be sure it has one.

If you have never used a chain saw before, I suggest you get some training before you start. A chain saw is potentially a VERY dangerous tool and you can get a serious injury in the blink of an eye if you don't know what you are doing.

Damn that sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

Yes. I have a Craftsman that I use occasionally. I love the fact that you push the button and it's on. No need to mix fuel on a 2-cycle engine or trying to start it or changing spark-plugs. Get a good brand name though.

Yes, I use an electric for the smaller trees and branches.

They are quieter, start with the flip of a switch and don't smell. They do have a limitation to trees or branches about 10 inches in diameter or so but that meets 90 percent of my needs and so much easier to work with.

Cutting is a little slower but not bad at all.

I have a Remington electric. Actually I bought it at a sharp discount because it was remanufactured. It is convenient and works fine for light work including small trees. You still have to use bar and chain oil.
Depending on how small the trees are, you might want to check out the Black and Decker site for branch pruner and/or
the "alligator" I bought each of them and so far the pruner is great-works on an 18Volt battery. I haven't tried the alligator yet but am looking forward to it.

I have a electric chainsaw and a gas chainsaw. The electric saw is good for small jobs. Its not good bigger jobs. Plus the cord really gets in the way.
