Can a chainsaw really cut through the metal of an automobile?

In the 2004 remake "Texas Chainsawe Massacre", Leatherface cuts through the roof of that big van that all those kids drove in town with. After seeing that, I eventually bought a 3-hp electric chainsaw and I tried that same thing on the metal body of an appliance and it did no such thing. It in no way even came close to even penetrating the metal.

So, in the movie, was the body of the van where the chainsww cut through made of old rusty-looking plastic or stryofoam to make it look real for the movie, or was the chainsaw an ultra high horsepower chainsaw with a razor sharp chain?
BTW, now that we're on the subject of this movie, how did they make it look real when it looked like that poor kid's lower leg got cut off by the chainsaw? It looked awfully real to me.

1 you used a wimpy little electric chain saw… you want to do that you need a high quality gas power saw

Yes a chainsaw can cut through thin metal. In real life not for long though. For the movie it was exaggerated a bit
