HELP! Homelite Chainsaw won't start?

I have a small homelite 10" baby saw that I want to get working for tomorrow when we go and cut wood. It has not been run in a long time and compression is so great that it takes all of my strength to pull the cord and it the engine only turns once or twice. I believe this is from way too much oil binding up in the piston right? I do not have another gasket but it looks like I will need to clean it out? Is there an easier way? Two years ago, this happened and we ere able to tug on it enough for it to start up and then if ran fine but did smoke a lot at first. The saw has a new Carbourator and a new spark plug and chain so that should not be the problem.

you know, there are so many things that could be going on here. It sounds like it is hydraulic locking, as in maybe the carb is leaking fuel into the engine.

A small saw shouldnt pull that hard. If you think it is hydraulic locked, take the plug out and pull it through then put the plug back in and try it.

Use fresh gas and oil mix, dont mix it too rich with oil, just per the instructions. Try to leave it empty of fuel when you are done.

This saw may have a compression release and it may be that it is not working correctly.

It may be gummed up like you say, but pulling some fuel through it should clear that out.

    good luck,

Clean out the gas chamber and add new 40-1 fuel mix. Also put some new bar and chain oil in it , after awhile it gets thick with age.
