Homelite 150 chainsaw muffler?

I recently found an old Homelite 150 chainsaw in the trash. It runs, but the muffler is missing. Can i just run it without a muffler, and rig up a cover to go over the port? I think it sounds alright without the muffler otherwise.

I think you will find during cutting it will chock down, try and get a muffler it helps combustion not just limiting noise, good luck

The muffler is designed to keep a certion amount of back pressure in the piston chamber, and keeps spark's from flying out and starting a fire. So, I would go buy one and put it on…you don't want to be the guy their looking for that started a forest fire….do you?
