Well, if it overheats, you’ll ruin the cylinder and piston. I would just run it till it drops, and then fix it. It shouldn’t cost much more for a piston too, but then you’d effectively have a brand new motor.
Edit >> besides, its a bad idea to replace one and not the other. A new cylinder wont last as long with an old pistion, and visa versa.
I am assuming that the broken fins are on the armature that produces electricity for ignition. If so, you can remove the armature and replace it with a new one with all the fins intact. You may need a gear puller, or an arbor press to get the armature off of the shaft. Be careful, most armatures are made of aluminum and will break if too much force is used.

well im running a 385xp doing storm debris clean up and have been for the last 6 monthes and this saw has been used since catrina and has been run over is missing fins and even has part of the case just kinda hanging there and it cuts 60" logs and biger all day long with no problems so run it as hard as you can with no mersy and it will amaze you that is one tough saw wouldnt trade it for anything
