It was a great saw when Homelite was top of the line. Since then, they have been bought and sold many times and are a shell of the company they use to be. It is very hard to get parts for the older Homelite saws.
you can buy a cheap sawzzall and do most of what a chainsaw can do with that.
I bought a sawzall for 50 bucks and a package of long blades for the wood work etc.
its a good chain saw for the money. i would buy them to use on a big clearing job . 20 -50 trees with a couple of blades. it did real well. all chain saws need shape blades ,oil and proper gas to oil mix. it will be a great saw for a homeowner, but wouldnt for commercial use.
Stihl is top notch in my book. A friend used to work for the phone co. in maintenance and purchasing and that’s all they would buy.
My dad heated with wood for 20 some years and would burn through other brands in a couple of years until he wised up and got a Stihl that lasted until he died. Mine is 28 years old and finally needs some new points.
I worked for an electrical utility in Chicago. The XL is the saw we used. They were very reliable and repairs were as easy as most other chain saws. Parts were readily available as was technical help. Mainly used to cut creosoted telephone poles and crossarms. They were very hard on the saws, but they held up. I have a 25 year old McCullough – basically a throw away saw, but if you take care of anything , you’ll get good service from it.
Depends on how hard it has to work.Homelite makes an excellent saw,for lighter work.If you plan to cut "Logs" for market, or serious firewood, pay for the right tool. For bigger jobs,Huskevarna is TOP-OF-THE-LINE, more than capable of eating Stihl’s entire product line.As a Timber cutter in the 1990′s,I tossed my 041Farm Boss in Iniana’s White River after using my pals Huskie.Never had a regret…Never needed another saw.
