Is there any way to restore compression to my Stihl chainsaw?

I lost compression. I checked the piston through the exhaust port and the piston is roughed up. Just wondering if there is any way to restore compression. Also, can I hone the cylinder and put larger rings in? Or am I going to have to resort to putting a new piston / cylinder kit? Thanks

    Scoring on the exhaust side of the piston is a sign of overheating. The only way to fix it is to replace with a piston and jug. If the saw in below the 026/MS260, its almost cost effective to get a new saw. But above that, if the saw is in good condition, replace the jug and piston. Replace the crank oil seals while you are at it.

    I think you already suspect the answer to this one, sorry! You’re going to need the new piston / cylinder kit.

    I don’t know how well you can bore and hone out a 2 stroke. May need to go with a new barrel, piston and rings. Will give your machine a new lease on life. You may also have a dead or dying head gasket too, could cause low compression but many small motors have one piece cylinder/heads so this may not be an issue.
