Comments on: oil to gas ratio for a poulan chainsaw?

I recently acquired an older Poulan chainsaw, and the label on the saw says “1/2 pt” per gallon of oil. I can only assume pt stands for pint, and if there are 8 pints in a gallon (2 pints per quart, 4 quarts per gallon), then that would mean a 16:1 ratio. Considering that there are a lot of different answers on this board, your best bet is to look on the saw itself, or find the model number and look up an operators manual. But good luck with that, I called the company that now owns Poulan and they don’t have any manuals for my model.

When you see a separate tank for oil, that is for the bar and chain lubrication, which should be filled up with “bar oil”. You still need to mix gas with 2 stroke oil at a ratio around 40 to 1, depending on the model.

Now using amsoil at 80:1 in my poulan saws. Engines run better with far more power.No signs of failure,at least for now.thank you

Here in the Yukon… We run all our saw’s at a 48/50 to one ratio…You should be safe with that…Run a little heavier in summer……Look on the 2 stroke oil btl…Those reccomended, are a safe bet…Yuke…

There should be a decal or indication on the saw telling what the oil to gas ratio is. Usually it is 1/3 pint of oil per gallon of gasoline.

I have tools that call for 32:1 I have other tools that call for 40 :1. I use the same mix for both, after four years no problems.

It depends on model + age, In general old 2 cycle machines were 32:1 (more oily) and newer models are 50:1 (less oil, environmentally friendly.) I would look up the model on line, if you have problems finding poulan I think they are still owned by electolux ( yeh the vaccume people!) and are connected with weed eater but companies change owners often.
In a nut shell to much oil at worse will foul the plug and carburator that will require a good cleaning and to little oil will give you a permanent paper weight!

have 3 poulan saws 16-1 on all of them. 32-1 might work but would not go higher if you want to keep yours from blowing engine
