Poulan chainsaw starts, but stops running in about three to five seconds.?
I have just rebuilt the engine because of a broken ring and low compression. It will start, but dies shortly after. What do I need to check?

make sure you have good spark. then be sure you are getting fuel thru the carb. sounds like you might have a restriction in the carb. clean it out and use some new-fresh gas.
did you have to adjust the carb before you rebuilt the engine? if so go back to the factory settings and then try it again. might be you tried to fix the problem at the carb and now that you fixed the real problem with low compression it is getting too much fuel. check the plug whe it dies and see if its wet with fuel or dry.
wet would be lack of spark or too much fuel from carb.
dry would be a restriction in the carb and lack of fuel.
you need to check out buying a stihl or a Husky saw Poulan is a piece of crap… the time and effort your wasting on a poulan bought from wal-mart is more valuable then the poulan saw so man up and get a husky
