He paid $2.61 for gas, which is how much he had left after purchasing the chainsaw. He got about 1.32

Sean had $2.61 for the gas, and he could only buy 1.32 gallons of gas.

Sean bought the chain saw for $187.99 + 5% tax. Tax was $9.40. So he payed a total of $197.39. Sean got $ 2.61 in change back to buy gas. Depending where Sean lives and the price of gas per gallon, would determine how many gallons he could buy. I bought gas last night in Granger Texas for $2.75.9 per gallon. So Sean could have bought 1.06 gallons . Wow, hold on Sean Don't crank the saw, you forgot to buy the 2 cycle oil required to mix with the gas. Poor Sean will have to waite to try out his new saw until he gets the oil..
