The best and most easily accessible is "Stihl".. The MS 170 with a 14′ bar will do the trick for use around the yard or at the campsite for cutting up firewood.. It’s fairly easy on the budget as well and retails for around $180.00. Buy the hubby a Stihl, and he will be smiling for years to come. There are more Stihl dealers around than any other brand of chainsaw. Here is a link with a picture for you to look at….

I recommend Stihl highly. Husqvarna is also a good brand. Make sure you buy the right sized saw for his needs.
It will depend on what he will be cutting during a camping trip. There are several different makes of chainsaws. If you are looking for something to just have around and maybe cut up some limbs or not so big stuff then you might consider A Polan or a Homelite. If you are looking to maybe cut some larger stuff like a bigger tree then you might consider a Stihl or Jonsered or Huskvarna. The Stihl or Jonsered are good saws and if taken care of properly will last for a long time as will the Huskvarna. These saws also come with different legenth bars. You will need to know about what size of bar he might need. If just wanting something to use on smaller stuff a 14-16 inch bar will probably be large enough to do what he would want to do. If he might cut a larger tree then you might consider an 18-20 inch or larger bar. I know this is going to be a Christmas gift as you stated but he really needs to pick out the saw himself because some are much heavier than others and some are somewhat easer to start to. I have two different saws I use to cut with. For the smaller stuff like small limbs or small trees I use a 16 inch Homelite that does quite well for its size. When I go out to cut winter firewood I use my Jonsered with a much larger bar. The Jonsered is also quite a lot more heavier than the Homelite. As you can see there are many different things to consider when buying a chainsaw. This is why I say your hubby needs to pick out the saw he would like and can use. Maybe just a couple days before Christmas tell him what you want to get him and let him go pick it out, otherwise you will probably be returning a chainsaw back where you purchased it.
My husband has been in forestry for 30 years and I run my own forestry company now for 7 years. All I can say is that with all our experience and employee experience, I would have to say I would never buy anything but a jonsered saw. ever.
stihl has to many quirks & break downs and is imossible to work on. It is the single worst brand of saw I have come across that is supposedly on a professional level. Always something stupid letting you down.
Husquarvarna is 2nd best….sister companies with Jonsered and many parts are interchangeable. As for other brands, they are toys. Poulan, Echo, craftsman, etc are all poor quality and you will regret the purchase. Did I mention my dad has a small engine repair shop and specializes in saws and agrees that Jonsered is the best.
As for the size, just find your Jonsered dealer and tell them a bit about what kind of use he will use it for and they will recommend a size.
Jonsered is what I use
hope this helps!
stihl or Husqvarna, you don’t need a large one for what you want to do with it,lowes has some good ones or home depot.

I purchased this chain saw about 2 weeks ago based upon the price and the reviews. I must say that I’m very pleased with the purchase. It arrived intact and ready to go. All I had to do was add chain oil – check the chain adjustment and go saw some wood. I made sure I had good eye and ear protection. The saw initially cut very quickly but soon seemed to bog down. I surmise it’s because the wood I’m cutting is still wet and at about 16 to 18 inches in diameter – rather thick. I purchased the Dremel chain saw sharpening attachment (#1453) for about $12.00 and was able to sharpen the chain in about two minutes. I highly recommend this attachment! If you need a chain saw and don’t want the hassle of the gas engine and don’t need to use it remotely – I recommend this saw. It really will do the job with power to spare.
