What is the oil/gas ratio for a 1980’s Homelite super XL chainsaw?
I don't have the owner's manuel and it doesn't say on the saw.

50 to one on all the newer saws,it was 32 to one on my old homelight. I’d try that first if it smoke excessivly go to the 50 to 1,it wont hurt it just foul the sparkplug
50-1
The oil today is pretty good. I use 32-1 mix in everything air cooled. They may have recommended more oil when the saw was made, but mine is a 1970 model and works great. The most important thing is to sharpen your chain properly and keep it sharp, so as to use the engine less. Outboards use 50-1 mix, but the engines are water cooled and run cooler and use different oil.
Those little containers of oil are just right for one gallon of gas. Read what it says on the oil container. Use only 2 cycle oil.
6 to 1
First 2-cycle additive motor oil stays fresh for about 12 months. If other than Homelite oil is used it is suggested that a mix of 16:1, which is 1 gallon of gas to 8 oz. of the mix.I got this information out of my homelite manual. The best rule of thumb is that you want the chainsaw to smoke alittle while running. That way you are sure that the motor is being lubed.
