What is wrong when my chain keeps coming off my elctric chainsaw?

I have recently got a small electric chainsaw. The first hour or so it worked great . Then, the chain came off. I took it apart and put the chain back on. It worked o.k. for about 5 minutes and came off again. I repeated this for abot 8 times and give up. It got to where it wasn't cutting good when it was working. It has a container on top to put oil in I think. Does it just need oiling or what?

  1. The Big Shot says:

There should be two screws near the chainsaw chain on the bar. You can tighten these screws to control the tension on the belt. When the chain saw is off and unpluged (make sure it’s not hot) the you should only be able to pull the chain up a little so that you can see the teeth slightly without pulling it off. Use the screws to control the tension. The chainsaw will loosen overtime, so you will have to tighten it frequently.

You should load bar and chain oil into the oil container. There should be a black pump button near the handle at the top. You can use this to pump oil onto the chain as you cut. Do this frequently. This reduces friction and will help with the problem.

Consult your manual about the oil and tension control for your model.

    Replace the tensioner.

  3. saaanen says:

    Tighten the chain.

  4. shorty says:

The chain may be the wrong size or you need totighten it

  5. Nighthawk says:

All saw chains need oil, this is vital.

Even small chain saws are potentially very dangerous. I strongly suggest you read the instructions/safety manual or you may be typing your next question with one finger.

I am not the sort to preach safety but never take short cuts with my chainsaws. The damage they can do is awesome.
