why does the chain on my chainsaw keep getting loose?

i can use it only for a few minutes before it needs to be tightened. does this mean i need a new chain? i sharpen it often.

    It sounds like you aren’t tightening the bar properly. No, you don’t need a new chain, and whether it is sharp or not has no bearing on the tension. After you put your chain on, you need to adjust the bar so there is just enough slack to pull the chain off the bar 3 links. Then tighten the bar. That should keep it from geting loose. Make sure the oiler is working also.

    Either your tension is slipping or more likely, the chain is heating up and expanding a bit.

    Are you sure your not ‘riding’ the safety brake?
    If you even touch that bar, you’re stressing the chain.
